The European Kansei Group (EKG) has the following intentions:
- Bring together everybody interested in Kansei in Europe.
- Promote the use of Kansei in European companies, both in big corporations and SMEs.
- Foster research and development in Kansei to make it more powerful, easier to use, and deeply adapted to the European reality.
Our ideas for fulfilling these aims are:
- Being an internet based association, with face to face meetings from time to time.
- Starting modestly, and staying flexible enough to evolve depending on the members’ needs.
- Inviting both people from academia and industry to join.
- Finding synergies and stimulating collaboration between members.
- Being alert and actively searching funding opportunities.
A brief history of EKG
The European Kansei Group was founded in 2014 during the International Conference on Kansei Engineering and Emotional Research (KEER 2014) in Linköping. By the end of the year, the group had its first official annual meeting at UPC in Barcelona where the organisation was formalized. The first ordinary election was held in 2015 in Paris.
Since then, EKG has contributed to the organisation and the promotion of the KEER conferences, has organised its own biennial meeting throughout Europe, and is extending its network all over Europe to promote kansei both in the industry and the academia.

EKG is organised by chapters based on the kansei domains.
Kansei Engineering (responsible: Simon Schütte and Brian Henson)
EKG is interested in connecting emotional responses to concrete product properties. Kansei Engineering integrates into commonly used product development methods providing an emotional dimension to new product concepts (and services). Thereby it can create truly desirable innovative products.
Kansei measurement (responsible: Lluis Marco Almagro and Shirley Coleman)
EKG is interested in measurement of emotional response using many different methods including questionnaires and semantic scales, skin resistance sensors and eye movements. We are particularly interested in the quality of measurements and the reproducibility of results.
Kansei design (responsible: Pierre Lévy and Alexandre Gentner)
EKG is interested in affective and emotional experiences in practices, as well as in interaction with products, systems or services. It aims to establish and apply kansei frameworks to design practice, towards an integrated consideration of kansei in design contributing to both individual and societal futures.
